Queer Story Slam returns with its 4th event: “Awakenings” on Saturday, October 10th, at 7 PM at the Bombyx Center for Arts & Equity in Florence, MA.
Awakening (n.)
A rousing from sleep
a.) A rousing from inactivity or indifference
b.) A revival of interest in something
A coming into awareness
During times of upheaval and uncertainty, awakenings crash on the shore of our consciousness to save us. They demand that we choose action over readiness, making moves before certainty has arrived. Awakenings help us find footing after chaos and restore balance to our lives.
We don’t have to be ready, we just have to begin.
What: Queer Story Slam: Awakenings
When: Saturday, October 10th, 7–9 PM
Where: BOMBYX Center for Arts & Equity, Florence, MA
Let our collective stories awaken us to a queer future that is all our own.
Tickets are available on a sliding scale: $5, $10, $20 and up (pay what you can). No one will be turned away for lack of funds. All tickets are general admission, and proceeds support the Queer Story Slam and future events. We encourage you to purchase tickets in advance.
Call for Submissions
Tell us your stories of awakenings — to queer desire, to a new understanding of the self, to a community or place that holds you, perfectly or imperfectly, just as you are. How has your queerness/transness saved the day? When did you first have a brush with queer utopia and what did it feel like?
Please limit stories to 750 words to allow for roughly 3-5 minutes onstage. Multiple submissions are welcome. Participants will be notified of selection after which they will be paired with a committee member for edits and be invited to a rehearsal prior to the event. Writers must be able to commit to attending both the rehearsal and event. For questions, please email queerstoryslam@proton.me
