Jess Martin, a singer-songwriter from Western Massachusetts, fuses gothic folk, punk, and modern rock with haunting melodies and poignant lyrics. Dubbed "a punk rock Joan Baez," Jess’s music explores themes of identity, transformation, and belonging.
Beyond music, Jess ventures into innovative storytelling through Shadow, Sound, Spectacle, a puppetry and performance project which features the talents of Amy West and Abby Hanna. Their debut production "Literary Monsters" has been enthusiastically supported by Drawing Board Brewing Company in Florence, MA. Shadow, Sound, Spectacle
Now entering its second year of touring, the boundary-pushing puppetry and performance project Shadow, Sound, Spectacle has become a regional standout. Featuring the talents of Amy West and Abby Hanna, their debut production, "Literary Monsters," has earned six local cultural council grants over the past two years. Supported by a network of Massachusetts-based libraries and various cultural councils, the project blends immersive music with intricate visual storytelling to explore the "monsters" of the human experience.
Echoes in Nature: Hampshire County
A powerful collaboration with poet and environmental educator Kim Hoff, Echoes in Nature is a multi-disciplinary exploration of our relationship with the wilderness. The project has been recognized with seven grants to date, fueling its ongoing tour of Massachusetts through 2026. By weaving spoken word with song, Jess and Kim amplify the voice of the natural world, fostering a deep communal sense of environmental stewardship.
Community & Connection
Dedicated to creating safe, generative spaces for local artists, Jess leads the Song Share Sessions for nonbinary, trans, and women singer-songwriters. Now in its third year, this community resource provides a vital platform for marginalized voices to experiment, connect, and grow within the local music scene.
